George Mastrocostas Assumes Key Diplomatic Role as Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland

Gold Coast businessman George Mastrocostas has officially assumed the role of Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland, solidifying his commitment to fostering cultural exchange and strengthening ties between Greece and Queensland. The swearing-in ceremony, held in Athens on January 5, marked a significant moment for Mastrocostas, who is the head of the esteemed private development and construction company, Aniko Group.

In his new capacity, Mr. Mastrocostas is poised to play a crucial role in diplomatic relations, providing support to the Greek community in Queensland, and promoting collaborations across various sectors, including trade, culture, and education. Expressing his deep honor, he emphasized the importance of building bridges and contributing to the vibrant cultural, economic, and social exchange between the two regions.

Speaking on the occasion, Mastrocostas stated, "I am deeply honored to have been entrusted to serve as the Honorary Consul General of Greece in Queensland." He sees this role as an opportunity to contribute significantly to the broader efforts of supporting Greece's development.

Beyond his diplomatic responsibilities, Mastrocostas holds the position of Board Director for The Hellenic Initiative Australia, a global non-profit organization dedicated to mobilizing Greeks and Philhellenes in supporting the future success of Greece through impactful programs. These initiatives span crisis relief efforts, support for entrepreneurship, and contributions to economic development in Greece.

Highlighting the synergy between his diplomatic and philanthropic roles, Mastrocostas expressed enthusiasm, saying, "The combination of my diplomatic role and involvement in philanthropy creates a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on both fronts."

As a dynamic leader in the development and construction industry, Mastrocostas's Aniko Group has played a pivotal role in transforming the Gold Coast landscape. With a development pipeline exceeding $2 billion, the company recently completed a $500 million transformation of Hope Island, selling more than 600 apartments and townhouses.

Aniko Group's impressive portfolio includes significant residential and commercial projects in Southeast Queensland, such as the luxury car showroom on Bundall Road and a sold-out residential apartment project at Labrador. The company is set to embark on one of Queensland's largest private projects early this year – a $2 billion, four-tower residential and mixed-use project called The Landmark, adjacent to Pacific Fair Shopping Centre.

The Landmark project is envisioned as a vibrant residential-resort destination, comprising residential apartments, offices, medical facilities, a luxury hotel, and a ground-floor retail and dining precinct. The four towers, ranging from 25 to 53 levels, showcase Aniko Group's commitment to innovation and excellence.
