Bastion Group rides development wave with the unveiling of new $180M Gold Coast icon “Surfer”

Bastion Group has unveiled a bold landmark for the Surfers Paradise skyline with the launch of its newest and aptly named Gold Coast project Surfer, a $180 million, 30‑storey architectural statement inspired by the city’s rich history as one of the world’s iconic surfing destinations.

Located on Vista Street, Surfer draws inspiration from the form of a surfboard, encapsulating surf culture to mark Bastion’s next Gold Coast landmark as the group expands its current development workbook beyond $500 million.

With the company’s debut project, the $184-million Nera on Chevron Island, the Alex Wood-led Bastion Group is now turning its attention to a truly unique project for the Gold Coast.

“Surfer will bring together world‑class architecture, authentic surf culture and a lifestyle‑driven amenity suite designed for a premium buyer seeking elevated coastal living,” said Bastion Group Founder and CEO Alex Wood.

“We’re incredibly proud to launch Surfer as a project that embodies the heart of the Gold Coast, surfing.”

“This project has been shaped by intentional design and a clear vision for what modern Gold Coast living should be and seeing it move from concept to launch is a milestone for our team and a moment of genuine excitement for Bastion.”

“We are looking forward to bringing this project to market and to share it with buyers who truly value the lifestyle this city offers.”

Surfer marks the next chapter in Bastion’s growing portfolio of design‑led projects planned for Southeast Queensland.

The development has been crafted in collaboration with some of Australia’s most respected designers, led by award‑winning architect Joe Snell of Studio Snell and supported by internationally acclaimed landscape designer Jamie Durie, who is shaping the outdoor environment.

Adding authenticity to the project’s coastal DNA, professional surfers Dane Henry and Milla Coco Brown have contributed lived experience and insight to Surfer’s wellness and lifestyle spaces, ensuring the building reflects the rhythm, energy and reality of life lived around the ocean.

Surfer is targeting discerning buyers with a strong affinity for surfing, wellness and the Gold Coast’s relaxed coastal lifestyle.

The project comprises 100 residences in two- and three-bedroom layouts offering views from the ocean through to the skyline and hinterland.

Notably, the project will feature 75 short‑stay apartments designed for lifestyle‑led investors seeking high‑demand accommodation opportunities.

Surfer also includes 25 private luxury residences tailored to owner‑occupiers, particularly young professionals and young families seeking a refined, beach‑centric way of living. Apartment prices start from $995,000.

Each residence has been designed with expansive, functional living spaces, reflecting the growing demand for modern beachside homes that balance beauty, practicality and long‑term value.

Residents will enjoy a suite of luxury lifestyle amenities, including an EMF-designed fitness centre, resort-style swimming pool, exclusive residents’ retreat with private plunge pools, lounge and spa, and a boutique retail precinct with a signature restaurant and café.

Surfer’s ground‑floor retail and dining precinct will further enhance the streetscape, creating a vibrant hub that elevates the fabric of urban living.

“We’re big believers in creating timeless projects that are unique to the Gold Coast through intentional and authentic design,” said Mr Wood.

“Each of our projects begins with a clear purpose to create places that will remain relevant, valued and enduring for generations.”

Surfer follows the momentum of Bastion’s landmark Nera, which is edging closer to a sellout, reinforcing the group’s reputation for delivering premium, design‑driven communities supported by Bastion’s fully integrated model, from development and construction through to long‑term property management.

The development is positioned to capture all that the Gold Coast has to offer through a walkable lifestyle that is within easy reach of vibrant bars, restaurants and world-famous beaches of Surfers Paradise, with Broadbeach and Burleigh to the south even more accessible after the expansion of the city’s popular G:Link light rail service.
